January 7, 2019
In keeping with our commitment to 90-day advanced communication about runway maintenance projects at Toronto Pearson, I am writing to inform you that runway resurfacing of north/south runway 15L/33R will start in early April 2019, completing in June 2019. When the details of the project schedule are finalized, we will reach out with more information. The GTAA will also be rolling out a communications campaign to inform residents about the work in the week of January 3, 2019.
We will be resurfacing runway 15L/33R, one of two north/south runways at Toronto Pearson. Work is anticipated to begin as early as April 3, 2019. Excluding any unforeseen delays, the resurfacing project is expected to be completed in June 2019. We have scheduled the work for overnight off-peak hours (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) when flight traffic is lowest. This project will consist of electrical work and the milling and resurfacing of runway 15L/33R to keep the surface in top condition and ensure continued safe operations. Because 15L/33R intersects with east/west Runway 05/23, this project will briefly limit the availability of 05/23 and may also affect nighttime preferential runways.
We recognize that resurfacing will create a temporary impact for some residents due to aircraft noise and we apologize for any inconvenience that this causes your constituents. If constituents have concerns about aircraft noise, they can be directed to the GTAA’s Noise Office at 416-247-7682 or to the online noise complaint form. More information on noise management can be found on the Noise Office webpage, and regular updates are available on Twitter (@TorontoPearson) or our community newsletter, Checking In.
